This blog is the record of a cycle touring holiday in Tuscany during September 2010. It is mostly written from my perspective, but others of the group are encouraged to add their own views, content, photos or whatever.
The blog should be read in conjunction with the planning information that is in this wiki and more photographs that are in this Flickr set.
Main lessons from the planning and execution:
- The roads of Tuscany are very cycle-friendly. Even the busiest roads that we used felt safe by Australian standards. Drivers were very bike-conscious.
- The effort put into hotel selection was worthwhile. Getting the right location makes sightseeing much more enjoyable.
- Really good food and wine, but that’s what you would expect.
- This route contains remarkably diverse landscape types, far more concentrated than Australia.
- Zero punctures and only trivial low speed crashes.
- Italian bike shops are good, with cheap service and parts.
- September is a great time of year for cycle touring in this location.
The best way to navigate through the content is by selecting dates from the calendar on the right. The relevant dates are in September 2010.

Your trip sounds great. It is done for 2010 – at the same time my brother and I did about 400KM from Bressanome to Villach -Klagenfurt in Austria . Now looking into Tuscany . Are doing this trip again ?
